In a statement Sunday (8/3) US President Barack Obama said "the gap between the values inherent in women and how their treatment every day is one of the injustices in the present". Obama added his administration will continue to seek to ensure that women and girls are treated as fully human and have the rights and equal dignity.
International Women's Day was first celebrated in 1911.
